Four easy ways to save water at home
Whether our home has a water meter or not, we all have our part to play in managing how much water we use. By taking a closer look at how much we use, we can find ways to save money on our bills, as well as minimise the amount of energy it takes to treat, pump and heat hot water in our homes.
It's easy to save water at home. Here are four easy ways to get started!
Turn off the taps
Don't let your water consumption run out of control! Save six litres of water a minute by turning off your tap while you brush your teeth.
Take shorter showers
Every minute you spend in a power shower uses up to 17 litres of water. Set a timer on your phone to stop your showers taking too long. Switching to a water-efficient shower head will help you use less water without even realising!
Wait for a full machine
Waiting until you have a full load for the washing machine means you'll use less water and energy than if you did two smaller loads. This means lower bills as well, of course!
Get smart with gardening
Water outdoor plants in the early morning or at the end of the day to stop water immediately evaporating in sunlight and heat. You could also water the soil directly, so it goes straight to the roots, where it’s needed most.
